Career and Academic Opportunities

Individuals who complete the BS Biology (General Biology Track) and MAT Secondary Science will be regarded as highly qualified to teach grades 6–12 Biology. Having completed the MAT, these individuals are qualified to pursue an advanced degree in education, such as an Education Specialist (EdS), Doctor of Education (EdD), or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), each in a variety of related disciplines. Some MAT graduates may pursue a Masters degree (MA) in Biology or similar fields.

Double Owl Admission Requirements

  • GPA: 3.00 in KSU undergraduate coursework
  • 60 hours completed toward Bachelor's degree
  • 30 hours completed in residence at KSU
  • Recommendation from 2 KSU faculty

Double Counted Courses

  • SCED 6412 to count for General Biology Concentration Elective
  • EDUC 6240 to count for General Biology Concentration Elective
  • Science Elective (graduate course with BIOL, CHEM, PHYS, SCI, or SCED prefix) to count for General Biology Concentration Elective

Suggested Timeline

Apply to Double Owl early in Junior year. Apply to Graduate Program in Senior Year by posted graduate program deadline.

Accepted Double Owl students will need to apply to their Graduate Program by the posted deadline for the semester immediately following graduation with the Bachelors degree.
